The Value of Business Relationships
When I began my first business, I did everything on my own.
I was filled with hope, good intentions and solid stubbornness. I was positive that no matter what challenges came my way- I could figure it all out on my own. I was determined to do it all, and I promised myself I would die trying. Well, I nearly did! Burnout, frustration and hopelessness followed. What helped me through was my willingness to connect with other business owners who assured me I was far from alone. I met business owners who started with nothing and built big companies. I met Moms who created solutions to problems and were able to fulfill their dream of working around their kids. Although very different, these women all shared something in common, they didn’t want to do it on their own. It was because of their vulnerability I could lean into my own. They saw the value of connecting with other business owners and watched this impact their business in a positive way.
Business can be a long, lonely road if we don’t include others who know what we are going through. Each business is different, of course, but what is the same is challenges. As business owners, we sometimes doubt our ability to do new tasks, catch up with the latest trends and balance the books. We can even trick ourselves into thinking you are the only one feeling this way - after all, it looks like everyone else has it figured out. By connecting, I learned that that was not the truth at all.
And just like that, I did not feel alone. No one quite understands what being in business is like- another business owner. The courage and bravery of others’ stories of why they got into business and especially how they kept going inspired me. Now, I cannot imagine not having connections with other business owners. The building of relationships takes time, and just like other things in our business, it’s all about the mindset we hold on what is possible. We have to look at relationships in business as an investment.
As we build our business, let us remember to nurture and build relationships. When we connect with others with something in common the return is immeasurable. The energy, inspiration and sense of belonging draw us back for more. There will always be things to do, receipts to chase, social media plans to create and think more about how we can increase that profit line. Have you considered how nurturing or creating new relationships can add to your business? It is amazing what happens when you feel supported, connected and inspired.
A little bird told me that an opportunity for women in business to connect, learn and be inspired might be coming our way. Who knows it just might be the right opportunity for you to start building some new relationships in business. Keep your eye on the Crowsnest Connect for more details.
