The Gilded Haus • Blairmore AB

What problem(s) does your business solve?

We are a home decor and gift boutique. While shopping online may be convenient, people are often disappointed in products purchased online when they discover that it’s not quite what they were hoping for. And while Crowsnest Pass has a few solid options for retail, I still found myself shopping in Lethbridge or Fernie because there was more choice. We hope that our store solves both issues for our customers.

How did you come up with your business name?

My paternal family is German, so that is where Haus comes from (means house). To “gild something” is to cover thinly with gold leaf or gold paint, giving an object an elegant look. To us, The Gilded Haus projects an elegant space or home.

When did you start your business?

We are a mother/daughter team and opened in November of 2021.

What drove you to start this business?

We both love to decorate our spaces and over the years, I have had the opportunity to build and/or renovate several homes. Every new (or new to me) home has always started as a blank canvas and locally there weren’t many choices to turn to for home decor that fit my style. This was when I realized there was a gap here and when the timing worked out, I got my mom on board and we decided to move forward with the idea to open a home decor and gift boutique.

Anything else you’d like people to know about your business?

While it is difficult to find home décor products that are made in Canada, we do search for it and when we’re lucky enough to find what fits our look, we’ll always choose made in Canada first. Plus, all the gourmet foods we carry are made in Canada. Shopping local is one of our values and we love to source and highlight products that are made locally, made in Alberta and made in Canada.

Do you offer Gift Baskets?

We can create beautiful gift baskets that say “Welcome home”, “Job well done” or “Thank you, teacher”. They are put together with the receiver in mind, and make it a real care package.
