Bloom Where You’re Planted

The peaks of the Sealy Range towered before me as I trudged up the 2200 steps towards the Mueller Hut. The sun blazed down upon the glaciers making the ice glimmer in the blue sky. Across the rocky landscape and murky glacial waters stood the majestic Mount Cook, the tallest mountain in New Zealand. As I rounded a bend in the trail and stopped to catch my breath, I was surprised to see a beautiful pink flower standing all alone in the rocky soil. It stood straight and strong, and it brought such color and beauty to the harsh terrain. I was instantly reminded of a wise saying that I’d heard long ago.

“Bloom Where You’re Planted”

Our lives and situations can often feel like shifting sand. We can set goals and make plans, only to see them fade away because of things that are totally out of our control. My encouragement to you as we begin our journey into 2023, would be to bloom wherever you’re planted. In the midst of rocky and strained situations, be that beautiful flower to those around you. Think of small things you can do to put a smile on someone else’s face; Seek opportunities to grow and thrive right where you are, and become involved in activities that create unity and camaraderie in the communities that you live in and love; Discover the unique giftings that you possess and share them with as many people as you can. No matter where you are, even if it’s not where you planned to be, you can make a positive difference to those around you. When you’re searching for a place to grow and flourish in the rocky soil, pathways will be opened to you and you’ll find your way to that energizing sunshine and blue sky. Who knows, you might even encourage other beautiful flowers to emerge around you!
