Mind-Body Connection
When people talk about the mind-body connection, it leaves us with the impression that one influences the other and that’s it. But according to Taoist sciences, it’s understood that both mind and body are manifestations of spirit. There is no ‘connection.’ They are two aspects of a whole.
Have you ever noticed that if you stub your big toe, really, really hard, your first emotional reaction is anger and fury? The cuss words project out of your mouth, and your fists look for connection with something before you even realize what’s happened. Now, if you think about the last time you stubbed your pinky toe, the usual reaction is to drop to the ground as if you might die and cry for your mother.
This is how acupuncture and other manual therapies understand the body and how emotions and physical effects each other. Lots of us walk around like our big toe has been smashed, and our fury needs to come out. Others walk around like their baby toes have been broken, and they feel weak and powerless and just want to curl up in a ball and cry. By having some knowledge of what body areas relate to each other, we can help you smooth out some of the emotional bumps and bruises of life.
Life is hard sometimes. Acupuncture helps.
