When temperatures get hot, keeping cool can be a challenge. Here are a few home remedies and ideas to cool you down.

Water and moving air, A wet towel around your neck and feet in cool water with a fan or a breeze will cool you down quickly, any pot or pan from the kitchen that will fit your feet will work. Fill it half full of cold water and sit with your feet and ankles covered by the water. Spray or wipe your skin with water and let the breeze evaporate it to feel cool.

Try drinking switchel. It’s a refreshing and effective southern recipe that is essentially a tablespoon or so, of apple cider vinegar to a jug of cool lemonade. The addition of the vinegar really does something for helping to feel cool. Make a big jug in the morning and drink it all day.

Avoid stimulants, like coffee, sugar, and alcohol. Even if you drink them cold or icy they add more heat to our system. Coconut water, mint, green tea, chamomile, lavender, lemongrass and rosemary are cooling by nature. Make a strong cup of tea of any of these herbs you like and add them to your switchel for added cooling effects.

Cucumbers, Dill, Coconut water, strawberries, melon, salad greens and most watery veggies are foods that are also cooling and make good snacks or smoothies.

Look up the signs of heat stroke and heat exhaustion and keep an eye on your loved ones when the temperatures get high.
